Hello my name is Shay La Velle. Something that is is crucial to my identity is being an American. This is crucial to how I act and think. Say if I wasn’t an American and I was a Canadian, I won’t have the freedom to say as I please. This is important to my identity since I am very honest and truthful. Meaning if there is something true ll say no matter your feelings.”Facts don’t care about your feelings”. Now that doesn’t mean I’m not a mean, bigoted person. It means that I’m a polite person that will say the truth, even if it hurts. Another thing about being an American is that I have so many opportunities for success. This has made me ambitious(not too much though). Another freedom of being an American is the freedom of Religion. By having this freedom I am free of persecution and I can freely believe the One and True God. Being able to believe in God has made me a happier and better person. Such as having morals and a belief system that guides me through life.
One time when I failed, was when I first started challenging people on their thoughts/beliefs on the world(someone’s worldview). It affected me to think about how to debate someone that debates with lies and feelings. So I learned to trap people into being bigger hypocrites and make them seem more stupid then they are.
One time when I challenged an idea, was when I challenged the that all white people are racists. I was prompted to act because I found it to be false, racist, and insulting. I would make the same decision again.
A place where I’m perfectly content is my room. Things I do in my room is play video games and listen to music. These things are meaningful to me because I really enjoy playing video games. While listening to music calms me and makes me feel better.
Something that I have undertaken on my own in the last year that has nothing to do with my academic life is joining cross-country and track and field.
An “informal” event that marked my transition from childhood to being an accepted American is, the 2016 Presidential Election. This was because my mother and her colleges shoved political propaganda down my throat to make me think a certain way(which has happened for years). Though this made me think “outside of the box” and make my own decisions, which made me a free-thinking American.
If I have the opportunity to travel back in time I would travel to the 1950’s-1960’s. This is because I would be around the best generation in history(the soldiers not the baby-boomers). Economic prosperity and happiness would be at an all-time high. Innovation and business would be good. The fight for social economic norms were being formed such as the Civil Rights Movement. Mostly conservative and libertarian presidents (acted as such). College would have a point. Crime would be at an low and terrorist attacks would be low (besides KKK and Black Panther Group(s)). All American rights and liberties would be unchallenged such as Freedom of Speech. Christianity and Judaism would be much more popular then other dangerous religions and Atheism/ Laveyan Satanism. Fair and legal immigration would be apart of american culture with them being able to assimilate. American culture was good and mostly unified: not full of people that believe in multiculturalism.
The best advice was to keep calm and fair when I’m dealing with my mother. This was given to me because I would get really angry by what my mother would say. I followed it.
For part of my life I grew up on the south side of Chicago. It helped shape me into the person I am because it made me a honest and brass person.
If I could be a “fly on a wall” I would observe the signing of the Declaration of Independence because it is one of the most important dates in the this amazing country’s history. I would like to learn more about the founding fathers on taxes, decentralization, protectionism, imperialism and nationalism( their individual thoughts on such). This would benefit me to think critically on my worldview.
